Rare Butterfly Found at Healys

A rare butterfly was found amoung the flowerbeds at the front of Healys. If anybody could help us identify this butterfly we would love to hear from you.

Salmon Fishing on the River Moy at best in 50 years

Week ending 8th August: A total of 494 salmon were reported for the week on the Moy. The Moy Fishery accounted for 116, Catherdal Beat for 45 and the Ridge Pool for 44.

Week ending 4th July: Moy Fishery provided fantastic fishing with a total of 215 salmon.

Week ending 11th July: On the Moy Fishery 467 salmon caught, the majority taken on fly with most being released. On the Ridgepool over 180 salmon caught. On Foxford Fisheries Michael Raper and party of four caught 43 salmon, releasing 12.

Week ending 18th July: On the Moy angling efforts was heavy resulting in a reported catch in excess of 2000 salmon

Week ending 25th July: On the Moy a reported catch of 1139 salmon.

Fishing Update

A group of fishermen staying at Healys over the weekend, caught 7 salmon weighing between 5 -10lbs on the River Moy. Fishing has much improved with the return of the rain.

Castlebar 4 Day Walks

Castlebar 4 Day Walkers enjoying a well deserved rest at Healys

 

 

The Castlebar 4 Day Walks ended at Healys on July 2nd. Many of the Walkers were from Holland and there was great excitment in our Hotel Bar when Holland won their World Cup match. (see our Photo Gallery page for pictures of the celebrations)

Guided Walks

Trek West Tours is a new company specialising in Guided Walking Tours in Mayo and Sligo for groups and individuals.

 

Weekly Scheduled Walks (June 26th - Sept 4th)

They will be running weekly guided walks every Saturday at 10am, leaving from outside the Cathedral in Ballina. The walks will vary every week and will take about 3 hours to complete. Walkers will need good walking shoes/boots and wet gear.

These walks are €20.00 and  include a snack and transport to and from the looped walk.  Anyone is welcome to join the group and we'll head off regardles of the weather!! Contact 087 2540334 for further details.

Atlantic Golf Challenge July 12th to 14th 2010

The Atlantic Golf Challenge is being hosted by Enniscrone, County Sligo and Carne Golf Clubs on July 12th to 14th (Monday to Wednesday). This is the first time an event like this has been held involving the 3 clubs. Members of participating clubs can enter for only €65.00 which is great value. Visitors can enter for €125.00 (a saving of €70.00 if they had to pay greenfees on each course.

Beltra Report Week ending 12th June

John O'Hora had an 8lb fish on a Cascade (fly) off Clarkes Point.

Ian Conn had an 8lb Salmon, slightly red, on a Beltra Badger (fly) and two ofthre boats rose 2 fish.

Eamon Kennedy had a 10lb fish on Morrisons Point and Rocky Moran had a 10lb Salmon on Morrisons Point.

Mr. David O'Connor staying at Healys Hotel, Pontoon was fishing in the bay outside the hotel (Dry Fly) for Trout on a 5lb breaking strain nylon and landed a 10lb Salmon on Saturday 15/5/10

Beltra News

Martin Hughes had a 7lb Salmon at the red shed during the week. Eamon Kennedy and Des Beirne turned fish and James O Horas boat lost a fish at Morrissons...
5 Salmon caught at Coop side. Johnathon Murray had 3 between 8 & 10lbs on Shrimp flies between the Deck & Faheys Point. Alan Donoghue had a 12lb fish at Flanagans Bridge and Paddy Kelly had a 9lb fish at Morrissons on the Bridge.

The Dick Gillespie Cup

The Dick Gillespie Cup was held on Lough Conn on the 25th of April 2010. Registration was held at Healys between 9.30am & 10.30am. TAFI rules applied, Fly Fishing only, 13" size limit.

Alot of fish were caught but alot were put back due to the 13" size limit (which was quite high for Lough Conn)

1st Place Joe Quinn, Ballina with 2 fish weighing 2.90 lbs

2nd Place Michael Ferry, Co. Donegal, with 1 fish weighing 1.76lbs 

Weigh in was held at Healys at 7pm followed by presentation of prizes and refreshments

Presidents of Skal Clubs across IrelandSkal International Mayos Presidents Dinner held at Healys Restaurant & Fishing Lodge 

We had a great attendance at our Presidents Dinner held here at Healys on the 21st of February 2010

Many Skal Club Presidents attended, Mrs. Geraldine Rosney, President of Skal Irealand attended as did a large number of Skalleagues.

We held a draw for the Skal Haiti Disater Fund and in total we raised €1000.00 for the fund. Many thanks to all who contributed - by buying tickets and sponsorship of prizes.

Folowing the Gourmet Dinner the Skalleagues retired to the bar where live music and singing was enjoyed by all until the small hours.

Healys Restaurant & Fishing Lodge sponsored the Ladies and Gents Sunday Golf Competition in the fabulous Enniscrone Golf Links in September 2009.

Enniscrone Golf Links is in the top twenty Golf Courses of Ireland, having been awarded the Irish Golf Tour Operators Award for Golf Course of the Year 2008.

John Devers boat usually marks Lough Cullen Shore, however due to recent heavy rains, it now looks all at sea.

Water level reached new highs over the last number of weeks, with the lake threatening to breech the road. Fortunatley water levels have started to receed, having dropped a foot in the space of a day.

The 75th Jackson Cup was held on Lough Conn on the 27th of September.

  • Registration was held at Healys Hotel  from 9:30am to 10.30am. Fly - Fishing only, with a 13" size limit, TAFI rules applied. Weigh in was held at 6:30pm at Healys.

    The Jackson Cup has been running since 1934. For the last number of years the Daughter of the Late Reverend Jackson has presented the Cup to the winner with the Heaviest Trout.

    40 anglers competed in the competition this year. The winner was John Walsh(Pictured above), with his Trout weighing in at 1.22lbs. This is the second year running John has won the competition.

    2nd and 3rd place were won by Paul Ruane (1.13lbs) and Martin Keane (1.10lbs). T.J Ruane won the Junior Competition and Carol Neal the Ladies.

    Highest Catch in the History of Healy's

    This year 3 gentlemen from Wales recorded the highest catch in my 13 years here at Healy's.  A total of 20 salmon ranging from 2 to 6lbs over 4 days.

    12 Jul at Foxford Fisheries; Water good, Weather cloudy & showery; 5 Salmon, 4-5lbs

    13 Jul at Foxford Fisheries; Water rising, Weather sunny; blank day

    14 Jul at Foxford Fisheries; 6 Salmon, 2-6lbs

    15 Jul at Foxford Fisheries; Water high and coloured; 9 fish, Grilse, 2-5lbs

    Second Highest Catch

    A group of regular fishermen from Belfast hauled 9 salmon over 3 days.

    15 Jul at East Mayo; Water dropping; 5 Salmon, 3-5lbs

    16 Jul at Easy Mayo; Water dropping; 2 Salmon, 7lbs & 3.5lbs and 1 Sea Trout 1lb

    17 Jul at Coolcronan; Water dropping; 2 Salmon, 4lbs & 3lbs
